CLATUU! VERATA! NICTUU!

Second of two swaps was for Figma 558 Princess Connect! Re: Dive. - Karyl. So while I in general did not know anything about this figure either, I at least knew enough to know she was from a mobile game by Cygames., and I had actually gotten the first figure from the series, Princess Pecorine. I later learned that while the game was popular enough to spawn an anime series, it's basically a dead game at this point as outside of the Japan, the servers have basically been scheduled to shut down, which basically has resulted in interest in the IP going down the crapper, hence Karyl ended up on the list of unloved toys.

Just a regular Figma this time around, the figure comes with what I'm presuming is standard gear, for the character and based on the fact she's a mage I guess her magic staff and some glyph effects basically cover it all. Otherwise, you get 4 total faces and 10 Gripping/Posing hands. The stand comes with several arms, including one for holding the staff and two for holding the glyphs.

So I guess Karyl is a Catgirl in the typical anime sense, meaning the ears and the tail aren't just for show. Character design looks attractive enough and this not being the main character says to me that her average bust and hips are probably about right, though if I dig further it'll probably the usual Figma lankiness showing up. The skirt, long twin tails, and shirt tails you can already visualize as being an impedance as it pertains to the Articulation, or at least posing options.

Face plates look to be full of life and energy, offering a a nice variety of expressions to pose the figure with.

So as mentioned above, the general design of the figure does result in some limitations to posing. In the case of the hair, at least you can use that to your advantage, propping up this figure in more unstable poses. Typical assortment of single Figma joints at your disposal, but with a twist. Her waist is actually a double ended ball joint, which not only serves the purpose of the waist, but also you can actually shift the lower body slightly forward or backward, simulating a back arch and giving slightly more room for the hips to do their job. This double joint, simple as it sounds, does expand you positing options as the legs have more freedom though ultimately upper body limitations like the shoulders and legs still put a damper on things.

From a Paint Application perspective, nice clean, crisp work from our friends at Goodsmile Company. No issues with overspray or generally lumpy application. Flesh tones appear to be top coat only, but by this point can't say I'm surprised or showed anymore. There's a few rough spots on the Gold trim, but as someone with the hand eye coordination of a sugar addled squirrel, I'm always amazed that thin lines like the ones on the bottom of skirt can actually be applied by a person in general.

Build Quality wise, nothing sketchy to report here. I guess if I had to find something, you could say that the arms that hold up the effects and the staff are a bit flimsy due to their narrowness. Everything else is the usual Figma level of sturdiness, so pose away!

With that, this particular series of random Figma purchases is now completed. Its always a delight to randomly buy cheap Figma because at the very least, you'll at least be presented with a solid figure with some pretty good paint. Furthermore, if I tried to be a completist I'd go broke (and really run out of space) so I feel my methodology yields the best balance between value and surprise. Clearly this isn't a figure I'd recommend per se, otherwise I'd have at least bought it at full price. but for fans of the series, it seems to be a non brainer.
