Down With The Thiccness

While I appreciate a fine bust line on my action figures, it's very seldom that you get any that actually go against the typical norms and make one with actual hips. In fact, this doesn't generally happen even if the source material calls for it. But, I guess curvy hips are the calling card for one Reisalin Stout, heroine of the game Atelier Ryza. I say I guess because while I've seen art from the game, I have yet to actually play any of the series.

Retailing for about 10,000 Yen, the figure set comes with a good number of accessories:

- 1 x Main Figure

- 3 x Face Plates (Neutral, Annoyed, Skeptical)

- 8 x Gripping/Posing Hands

- 1 x Axe

- 1 x Mallet

- 1 x Bomb Rod

- 1 x Fishing Rod

- 1 x Celestial Seeker

- 1 x Jacket/Sleeves

- 1 x Uni

- 1 x Base/Stand

Based on the load out, I'm going to guess that there's some sort of resource gathering sidequest/game involved in the series. What's more important is that you're certainly not going to have a shortage of ways to display the figure.

So right out the box, Reisalin comes without her jacket on. What's interesting is that that is an option at all, so I'm guessing walking around jacketless must be an option in the game. What's nice is that it doesn't get in the way of appreciating the curves on this figure. What I really like about the thighs is that it isn't just some blob - it's been sculpted in a way that makes it look like those thighs are JUST able to squeeze into her leggins.

In addition to the curves, you can also see all the various test tubes and vials she has on her body, as well as the tassel on her ankle pouch.

She's far from the only thicc character Figma has done right, but they really don't happen very often. I wish that hadn't given her a groin with the fixed flap on the back, though.

Face plates are all charming, though I can't speak to how accurate they are. My favourite would be her Skeptical/Mischievous look, because it's just so much fun to put her into really messed up poses and situations with the face. My only criticism is that all the face plates seem to be a bit flat, looking really weird from the side.

Articulation is very good. In addition to the standard joints, Reisalin also has a waist joint, and her thigh swivel also has a bit of additional range due to being mounted on a ball joint. While the figure lacks a true pull down hip, the natural range of motion isn't bad due to lack of bulk, and you can pull the torso out of the groin slightly to do a sort of ab crunch which helps sitting poses look slightly more natural, provided you can live with the visible gap on her back. Having said all that, you're still dealing with single jointed knees and elbows, though it's the knees that kind of hurts the most.

Paint is quite nice, with some very fine detailing involved on the body as well as the weaponry. Smooth paint applications across the board, with minimal evidence of overspray, poor masking, or general not giving a crap. It always amazes me that there are people good enough to do this at the mass produced level, when I can barely paint things that are double the size. Of course, that's why you pay the big bucks for these figures, right?

Build Quality is as usual - solid, with no major complaints or issues to report. Everything fits together nicely, which is important given how you need to swap out the upper arms. Detailing on all parts is clean, including on the outer jacket which is a softer plastic. Joints hold their intended position. The only thing to be careful of is that because there's so many dangling bits and pieces, there's the potential for breakage and loss of parts if you're not at leas aware of the possibilit. Of all the Figma I own, this one probably has the most potential breakage points.

A very nicely made Figma with excellent quality and display options, as well as those killer curves. But like with Hentai Woody, I adore this Figma because of the completely out of character things you can make her do... or maybe I'm just naïve and that the character does what I pose her dong, but worse. She may have been a curve fueled COVID purchase, but in the end, she turned out even better than I had ever hoped.
