So I've finally gotten to stuff that has been sitting here for literal months.. and even then, it waited months at Anime Export before I consolidated things together to save on shipping. Thank goodness EMS is back - I was getting tired of having to not only pay sales taxes, but also the arbitrary service charge these companies charge.
First up would be the Figma Pecorine, one of many figures that was purchased out of COVID boredom.
Pecorine is the one of the lead characters from the series Princess Connect! Re: Dive a series which has mobile game roots, expanding into other forms of media. I'm guessing it's a popular series, otherwise they wouldn't have made Character Goods.
I feel like I should make time and actually play some of these things.
The character is described as being perpetually hungry, Guildmaster of the Gourmet Guild, and Crown Princess of Landosol, all of which are captured in her character design. The Ongiri is a a pretty obvious touch for a food obsessed character, but what really made me chuckle was how her sword actually has a bite taken out of it.
The MSRP for this figure was around 8,900 Yen, which sadly is kind of the standard price for anything but the most basic Figma these days. Contents are as follows:
- 1 x Main Figure.
- 4 x Face Plates (Neutral, Winking, Excited, Eating).
- 11 x Gripping/Posing Hands, including a dedicated "Hands Clasped" effect.
- 1 x Alternate Chest Piece.
- 1 x Sword.
- 1 x Onigiri.
- 1 x Base/Stand.
I've seen those same hands on several releases, which kind of says to me there must be some kind of standard fit out for that sort of thing.
Here she is out of her packaging, and like with most Figma she looks the part, albeit a bit less curvy than source material would tell us. Outfit appears to be properly Colours are on point. Translucent crown is great. All of these are the qualities you generally get from a Figma.
The face plates are just adorable, and really give you a good sense of the personality for this character. It's honestly hard to pick a favourite one here, as they're all so expressive. I think in terms of most visually striking, it's go to be the "Excited" look with those expressive cutesy eyes.
The sword fits into a nice hip sheath on the back of the waist.
If you're a Figma collector, you'll probably know where this is going - the articulation is rather limited, pretty much due to the bulk that is her outfit and hair. There's also balance issues, but that can be addressed with the included base/stand. The fact that you can't exactly do ninja poses with the figure isn't exactly shocking, as Figma tend to be less limber compared to Figuarts. Based on the design of the character, I'm going to guess that you won't miss the overly dynamic poses with her either. At least the skirt is designed in a way that lets you take full advantage of what her legs can do, but that hair is truly cumbersome. The figure even has a waist joint, which were kind of sporadic in the past... maybe they're a permanent thing now?
The alternate chest piece, IMO, doesn't really add much. I've gotten the clasped hands to fit on the figure without using this, and the upper arms don't even really fit into the grooves on the chest piece.
Paint and Build Quality are spot for this type of figure. Really nothing to complain about. Paint issues are generally very quickly spotted, and it's all within acceptable norms. There's actually quite a few minute details on the figure, so maybe they got their A Team to do all the paint work this time. The figure has held up to my less than gentle handling and has no issues to show for it.
Pecorine is a fun, well made Figma. I have absolutely no idea if there's something the figure ought to be able to do but doesn't, but from an outsiders perspective the bright, cheery nature of the source art seems to have translated into a figure quite well. While not as detailed as the Fate stuff, the Pecorine Figma gives me Code of: Prncess vibes, and makes me wish that Figma or anyone, really, should really have made something from that line.
