Figma Ikkitousen: Great Guardians - Hakufu & Ryomou

Next up on the backlog list are these two lovely ladies, Hakufu (Yellow Shirt) and Ryomou (French Maid Outfit) from Ikkitousen: Great Guardians, which apparently was the third season of the series. These figures were releases relatively early in the lifecycle of the Figma series, and also includes Kanu Unchou, whom I don't have handy for any photos at this time.

I've never actually watched any of the series, though I know the basics - Hakufu is your typical "I just want to be the best" wandering hero, and everyone other lady is the representative of a High School. These schools basically have turf wars with one another, and Hakufu gets in the middle of it all. I believe the slight tweak to the formula is that the characters are tied into the fates of various Three Kingdoms characters by way of some mystic gems them each possess.

Hakufu comes with the following:

- 1 X Main Figure

- 3 X Face Plates (Neutral, Shouting, Battle Rage)

- 8 X Posing Hands

- 1 X Battle Damaged Outfit (Skirt/Torso/Chest)

- 1 X Figma Stand

Ryomou has a very similar kit, but strangely she's the only one of the three ladies without a set of battle damaged clothing:

- 1 X Main Figure

- 3 X Face Plates (Neutral, Shouting, Embarassed)

- 8 X Posing Hands

- 1 X Handcuffs

- 1 X Figma Stand

Both figures, as mentioned, are from the early years of Figma, and as such are built on the Figma 1.0 body. So, the heads are bit small and the bodies are a bit big. Oh, and the legs look really wonky from the sides. Overall aesthetics still hold up, as the level of detailing has been pretty consistent throughout the years - there's only so much detailing you can cram into a figure of this size, and much of it is driven by the art direction of the source material anyway.

From an articulation perspective, again your typical Figma 1.0 offerings when it comes range of motion and actual joints (ankles, knees, shoulders, and so on). Like with Phantasmoon, these two figure feature the "Floating Panty" system, which allows for more simulated ab crunch and a functional waist joint, though due to material choices and design Ryomou doesn't get as much of a boost as Hakufu does. Overall, major action poses are no issue, especially if you utlize the stand for assistance.

From a paint perspective, once again a solid outing. No issues with with overspray. Masking wise, Hakufu is slightly messier than Ryomou - of course, there's more stuff to screw up on Hakufu, so there's not exactly any surprises here. Decals are nicely applied.

Finally, we have build quality. There's not really much in terms of surprises here, with the exception that playwear can actually cause the wrist joints to be loose. The two closed fists on my Hakufu are floppy messes. Otherwise, you're getting the usual strong pose holding joints. No issues to report with regards to finishing of parts, assembly, or general QC flaws.

Ikkitousen as a series seems to have disappeared into obscurity. Occasionally there will be a piece of merch, usually featuring Kanu, showing up, but overall it's about the classic wares, which aren't that hard to find (or expensive to buy). As far as being an actual Figma, no worries there either. But as always, it's about the Character Design, which may or may not speak to you.

I just happen to be relatively easy to please, and will never say no to a fairly price Waifu.
