Giggity Giggity Giggity!

The preorder window for the Beast Gohan is now upon us, so it's probably a good time for me to actually open this one up and take a quick look at it.

The S.H. Figuarts: Dragonball Super Super Hero - Ultimate Gohan Super Hero figure (phew) is Gohan in his base form, wearing Piccolo inspired battle gear (which makes sense, as I believe he spends the movie being trained by him). The package itself is the same price as Vegeta, but somehow feels like it has less stuff in it:

- 1 x Main Figure

- 3 x Face Plate (Neutral, Gritted Teeth, Shoutng)

- 8 x Posing Hands

That's all she wrote....

The overall build is effectively the same as your typical Goku or more accurately, his Super Saiyanman figure. The biggest difference would be the sleeves, which thankfully are no longer the floating ones used on Goku. Rather, they're attached to the body like on Krillin, which is a bit odd when it comes to articulation, as the joint is on the bottom of the shoulder cavity. Articulation is somewhat restricted, especially when raising the arms up, but the trade off is that things no longer look really strange when in that position.

Like with Vegeta, these face plates do have more detailing lines as compared to anything that's come before it, though in the case of Gohan it's not as drastic mainly consisting of the lines above the eyebrows.

Other wise, articulation is pretty much as useful as you'd expect it to be. Proportions are a bit wonky when you use the knee joints, but that's not exactly news or unique to Gohan. Coupled with the included hands, you're going to be able to get most of your poses in, though the range of motion allotted to the arms and wrists does leave much to be desired.

Paint wise, you're looking at a very basic figure. The base plastic colour basically does all the work, including the chest. I think the only real paint on this figure are the detail lines on the face and belt, along with some matte clear coat for finishing purposes. Simple, but effective - at least the chest doesn't look like a mess. Build quality is as you'd expect - no issues. Everything fits together nicely with no unsightly gaps or other QC related issues.

There you have it. Gohan is a competently assembled figure, featuring the newer sleeve design that doesn't do that weird upside thing when you raise the figures arms. It's not a complicated figure by any means, but it is effective at portraying the character. Could there be more accessories? Oh definitely.. but that's why you were supposed to buy Gamma 1 & 2. I like Gohan, but I don't like him enough to buy two new characters just so he can have a prettier face or two.

The Beast Gohan set is looking to introduce a few new things to the world, namely his Beast head and an actual energy beam effect, and not to mention that the US P. Bandai site is offering free shipping for the first however many orders, so it's almost like they're worried it won't sell that well. I guess time will tell.
