In The Name of the Moon.....

I've always appreciated Sailor Moon as a series, setting the precedence for Magical Girl anime ever since its debut in 1992. Character goods wise, however, not the greatest showing, particularly the Figuarts line up, which to this day is still not complete, and they never got past Sailor Moon herself for the Crystal lineup. I was kind of hoping with the recent Sailor Moon: Eternal movie release in Japan, they'd at least finish up the Crystal line up so Usagi had aesthetically matching team mates.

Nope. But we DID get anime colour repaints of the original toys... except they left out at least Tuxedo Kamen from the Base Senshi line up. What I did notice was that Tamashii Nations solicited something called a Style Doll, which I'm not sure is a line or not. But it was something new. So, I ordered one, and over the Christmas break I was able to pick her up.

Considering the price point ($55 USD), I'm honestly surprised the packaging was so.. not collector friendly. Super Sailor Moon is about 8 inches tall, and comes in a pretty basic windowed box (expected) but strangely does not feature an inner clamshell. Rather she comes strapped and tied down to a cardboard liner. As such, I wasn't exactly too inclined to fully unbox her, as putting her back inside and not have her flop around would effectively be impossible.

You get the main doll, featuring rooted hair, fabric outfit (with painted/chromed plastic accents) and rubber boots. You also get...

... a nice Moon Kaleidoscope that features chromed parts, which she should be able to hold (as per product photos) as well as...

... this two sided art card, with one side featuring Super Sailor Moon mid pose, and the other a simple silhouette of I presume Super Sailor Chibi Moon and Super Sailor Moon.

Articulation is limited to effectively the shoulders and the hips, and even then its pretty basic range of motion. Not sure if there is any waist swivel, and head looks like there is basic swiveling action. The materials uses are a flexible plastic. So overall, she's more a fashion doll like Barbie, as compared to a full fledged action figure capable of relatively complex posing. A neat purchase, though at the MSRP you've either really ought to love the look or the outfit, because the Figuarts offer much more playability at around the same price point, if not lower.
