It's Getting Wild In Here!

With Orange Piccolo out of the way, the focus is now on Beast Gohan, the form that was revealed in the finale of the Super Hero movie. Honestly, there isn't really much to talk about on this, because as you've probably guessed, this is effectively the base Gohan body with a new head and a few extra accessories, including one to pimp out said base figure.

I completely forgot to take a picture of inside of the box, but here's the usual outside view. Typical web exclusive distribution system, which of course meant some more hurdles to deal with than usual. Since this is Beast Gohan specifically, you don't get a powered down form - that's how they get you! In addition to the usual assortment of hands, FINALLY an actual energy effect though it's appropriately (or unfortunately) Special Beam Cannon, which I guess he finally mastered and ripped off from Piccolo. Technically you can use the Kamahameha set from Orange Piccolo on Beast Gohan here as the pegs are the same. The Base figure part you get with this set is a face plate that is meant to accompany charging up poses.

As mentioned, basically same figure with fancy new hair/head. I mean, I do love the fact that Beast Gohan probably has the most functional sharp points of any Dragonball figure released thus far. The lack of any other change is expected, I suppose, as there wasn't any other physical changes to note.

The faceplates are, again, unsurprisingly good. They were already solid with the Base figure release, and the improvements made for that first wave seems to have been implemented across the board for Dragonball releases, not just the Super Hero ones. The gamut of expressions is decent and I'm sure they weren't even unique to this release.

The Base figure bonus face, on the other hand... well it' isn't bad in the usual sense - the face fits and all the usual qualifiers for being good are met. The problem is that, for whatever reason, the fit of the face was terrible. Despite multiple tries I was unable to align the face, front hair, and back of head such that you didn't see a gap.

Energy effects are competent. I'm pretty sure that these are recycled from somewhere. In fact, I think I have another one of those Kamehameha effects. Getting a Blue Special Beam CAnnot, however, is pretty nice.

Otherwise, the figure is very much atypical, which in this case is a good way, because this particular line doesn't typically disappoint. Articulation is obviously a non issue as it's based on a body that has seen multitude of uses, not to mention this particular body was used on Base Gohan, which was fine. Paint Applications are again, nothing special, because by now Bandai has a system that works for this line, plus their people don't suck. Same goes with Build Quality, with the exception of that weird anomaly involving the Base mode faceplate.

Overall, this is a figure that you get to celebrate the fact that Gohan finally has a power up, so he's no longer the feeble Accountant he's been since the Buu Saga ended. There's always Power Creep, but like with Orange Piccolo, this means there's potential for Gohan to be more involved in future stories and, more importantly he's important enough to fans and Akira Toriyama to keep relevant via upgrades.
