MOTU Classics: Evil Lyn

Well it's Friday again. The end of a rather brutal work week, what with wonky hours and just general fatigue from playing chauffeur for children and their summer camp.

Finally off the backlog list something that I was pleasantly surprised to find - the repaint of Classics Evil Lyn figure. I'd only seen the yellow skinned one once last February and that was basically it. There was word that 2021 would be a better year for collectors as Toys R Us no longer had an exclusive with this line and I have to say while it's not exactly raining MOTU figures out there, I have at least seen them on shelves more.

Being $14.99 CAD from Walmart, the figure and it's contents are pretty sparse. Having said that, the main draw of these toys is that they resemble the 80's figures, down to the one or two accessories the typical figure came with. In the case of Evil Lyn, she has her staff.

Oh, there's also a "comic book" which is really a sales pamphlet for the wave, featuring no character text what so ever.

For a figure at this price point, these MOTU releases aren't bad. Paint work is decent - not mind shattering but it gets the job done. Detailing is also more on the "it got the job done" level, but again, a reminder that this was the look of the 80s figures.

The most detailed parts of Evil Lyn are her face and armour, which came out pretty well.

Build wise, things fit together well. As you'd expect (and can see from some of the photos), the finish on some of the plastic parts aren't the greatest, but at least overall you're not gonna end up with a lop sided figure, or one that can't move/pose.

What really impresses me about these figures is the articulation. It's just nice to be able to revisit these older styled toys, but with competent, functional points of articulation. It's not a mind blowing number of joints, but considering we had what... maybe five on these figures back in the day... well this really is a treat.

Overall, a neat little figure from a line that combines old school looks with some modern convivences, all while costing much less than those lacklustre Savage Worlds figures.
