On Bended Knee....

Well, another week has gone by, and before I took off for some work travel (and hoarding), I spent a weekend hoarding at TFCon, as well as taking a joyride out to Welland, ON to pick up these two - the Kotobukiya Bishoujo Street Fighter Juri and Posion scale statues. No boxes and some wear on Juri (though I suspect she was like that out of the box), but both complete and as an added bonus the plastic inserts were, well, inserted already. Considering the aftermarket pricing on these things, $150 CAD for the pair is pretty good.

Not much fanfare with the opening pics, as I didn't really have any pictures to actually take. These two ladies are 1/7 scale, so chances are they're gonna be slightly taller than most other waifu on your shelves, which generally tend to be 1/12 or 1/8 scale.

A quick glance at the source art basically confirms that the usual formula of adhering to 90% of the art, then for whatever reason doing some deviations. The trademark Shunya Yamashita characteristics are, of course, highly visible and recognizable, as they generally are.

Juri is a fighter than made her debue in one of the Street Fighter 4 games.. I think Super? Predominately using kicks (as a Koren TKD user would), it's safe to say her design caters to the foot fetish crowd. This isn't quite her fighting pose, but she's constantly seen posing on one leg, so this isn't exactly showboating for her.

Fantastic amounts of fabric folds and other small details on the pants, or more accurately, leggings as she's wearing those on top of her actual pink pants. Arm coverings and the writ pds are also nicely, with the expected volume. Extremities (fingers, toes) are well sculpted, produced, and painted.

Juri doesn't quite have the figure of the other ladies, but she's got curves where it counts. She also doesn't really show and significant musculature on her body, though for all I know she could have some really beefy legs. Close up, she's looking mighty fine, but you can probably see some QC issues pop up, like uneven paint applications with regards to the slim purple lines, and for some reason there appears to be a moulding flaw on her left ass cheek. Everything else is well done, which thankfully includes her curves on the whole.

I also never really noticed the whole spider motiff until now. The spider legs that wrap around her chest appear to be made of a separate piece of plastic, so it looks much cleaner than it would if they just painted raised sections on her body.

Juri has a bit of an unbalanced personality, which is captured in her expressions in game, and here as well. Detailing on the hair is about what I would expect for this price range. Furthermore, because her hair is tightly packed, you're really not going to have too much in terms of loose hairs or anything else that would require the sculpting of dynamic hairs.

As with all the Bishoujo SF line, this statue comes with a base where you can insert a piece of acrylic, which at the end of they day is really just a way to save money.

Poison, on the other hand, is without a doubt a creation of late 80s/early 90s. While she made her fighting game debut in SF4, the character was created way back in the day as a generic thug that you'd beat up in Final Fight. Now if you know your video game history, you'll probably recall that Poison went through some rather extensive changes before showing up on the SNES version of the game.

One look at her get up, and it shouldn't surprise you that she was once a part of the Mad Gear gang, sporting a biker hat, worlds smallest crop top, Daisy Dukes, and high heels. Furthermore, you'll note the usual signs of gang life, like leather collars, wrist bands, and chains.

In additional to a wilder lifestyle, you'll notice Poison has that crazy 80's hair, requiring some rather extensive sculpting work on that part of the body. The large number of hairs that stick out from the main body, and general hair detailing lines, is quite large, and it was good to see how this aspect had not been forgotten.

As part of the set, you're given the ability to display Poison in one of three ways, either empty handed, with handcuffs, or with a riding crop (featuring an alternate hand).

Detailing work on her outfit (or lack there off) is quite nice, especially with the metal chains and her right upper arm band, but what's really quite the show stopper is the musculature and the curves because Poison might as well be naked. Beautiful lines, especially around the waist and hip area. Some subtle muscle definition around her thighs and abdomen area, given a bit of black wash to highlight these details. The crop top with the covered up nipples is well sculpted and assembled, but her Daisy Dukes and the way they cling to her hips are truly a work of art.

The relatively simple paint work needed for this statue has resulted in a cleaner look finished piece. Having said that, there are still some paint and finishes needed for her glorious body, which does not conceal any flaws at all.

There is only one seam line I can see, and that's where the two halves of her crop top meet - it's a shame this isn't a cast off figure. Otherwise, everything else is generally sanded smoothly with any assembly work hidden.

A bit wilder, but not as sadistic as Juri, this is captured in her head sculpt, which shows a lady just trying to have some fun, rather than someone looking for the chance to inflict maximum pain. I especially like how well her soft lips turned out.

Standard base - like I said, I'm pretty sure this was a cost cutting measure, to have a plain base which for customizing. You'll also notice the feet, which are probably the most messy part of the statue. I guess I never noticed her high heels being too large for her feet, but it's here and because of that we notice how... half assed the detailing work for the toes and tendons on the top of her foot are.

Both statues look great and in general unless you're a completist you're probably going to only get the Bishoujo of your preferred character, so it's somewhat subjective which statue is the "better one". From a design perspective, being equally attracted to both characters (that is, neutral), I have to give it to Poison as I grew up in the Big Hair energy era, and I like the display options that are given to you. The pose also better shows off the curves that the Bishoujo line is know. I, however, wouldn't kick either of them off the shelf, as it were.
