With the passage of time comes the delivery of more Transformers figures. Recently, Deluxe Chromia from the Legacy United line was released by Gamestop for sale. Being a Fembot, I basically went all in.
So if you haven't been keeping up, Chromia is a retool/recolour of the Animated Prowl figure, which was generally well received. When I compare this to the Cyberverse Chromia design, it's probably about 60% there. The cartoon design is definitely sleeker looking than this, but all things considered it's not terrible. I have no idea what her alt mode is supposed to be, but I'm thinking that it's probably something a bit more futuristic than what this figure gives you.
The head sculpt reminds me of the one we got for Generations. Certainly fits the character, though not so much the Cyberverse version of her.
Articulation is slightly above average, though as always with these toys, its due to the transformation. So you start off with your standard Mainline Deluxe level of articulation, so basically you have it all but you don't have wrists that articulate. The additions are that due to transformation, you can actually tilt the head upwards, which allows for prone or other poses where head tilt is needed. The limitation, however, is that it gets harder to actuate as you turn the head away from center. The other bonus articulation point are the wheels on the lower legs. Those act as a pivot point for conversion into bike mode, and can also be used for getting a deeper bend on the legs.
Conversion into Bike mode is pretty straight forward, with the most complicated step being to get that front end together. You really need to get everything in there tight because the kickstand is criminally short, and won't do anything to help prop the thing up as it won't even be able to make contact with the surface beneath it.
Paint Applictaions shouldn't be a surprise to anyone - it's on a "as needed" basis. Colour matching of the Aqua and Blue paint and plastic is pretty good. Otherwise, really nothing to complain about with regards to the work itself as it's reasonably clean and crisp, even on the front of the Bike mode, which I'm pretty sure is actually translucent Red plastic to begin with. Paint on parts like that have generally been crappy, so it's nice to see that things have improved.
Build Quality is good and for the most part there's no issues with it. I AM kind of confused about the hands. So this figure comes with throwing stars, which don't have the standard peg that other weapons do . So, the hands are designed different, featuring an open grip so you can hold the throwing star by one of the blades. The issue is that the right hand features a much wider grip than the left hand. My guess is that the right hand has the ability to be equipped with standard weaponry, but it makes holding the star really difficult. I've found you need to actually turn the thing 90 degrees and put it in the hand , as opposed to having them both point forward. There's a little groove in the palm of the right hand which you should be able to slide the blade in, but for whatever reason I can't get it to work for me.
So weapon grips aside, Chromia is a solid toy. Nice size and robot form, with the transformation into vehicle mode a decent challenge. Also, it's only in the last few years that we've FINALLY gotten some decent motorcycle based alt modes, so there's that as a plus. The bonus articulation is just the cherry on the top of the sundae.
