Rise.... RISE!

As with most recent games, each of the modern Tomb Raider releases came in a Collectors Edition, where you'd get a copy of the game along with some collectibles. One of the items for the second game, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was this statue that I picked up while I was in Montreal.

Video game collector statues, especially ones here in Canada/USA, are typically pretty bad, regardless of who the developer is. This particular statue isn't going to make you worship the ground the manufacturers walk on, but for a video game premium, it's not bad. You can tell that at least they tried to make a good statue, but limited by budget.

This statue recreates the box art of the game, and features Lara on a snowy rock formation, flare in outreached hand. The overall product generally gets the feel of the art down, from pose to general small detailing. The smaller pieces look pretty good, and the detailing on those is superb. Ultimately, though, it's the lack of paint that gives this statue that less than premium look, which is unfortunate. I'm not entirely certain they used top coat either as her body gives off this plastic sheen.

The other, perhaps more obvious, disappointment is the face. The overall facial structure is there, but they really screwed up on the eyes. Of course, as bad as this looks, the one for Shadow apparently looks even worse.

Detailing paint apps range from "I guess you tried" to "not bad", though in a way the less than pristine look of the paint can be explained as wear and tear on the various pieces of equipment. Weathering paint apps and the snow on the rocks is actually quite well done.

So there you have it - a decent, but not outstanding video game collectors edition statue. It's still better than some of the ones you actually have to pay money to buy separately. My most painful memory was spending $5 at EB for the Assassins Creed Odyssey Kassandra statue - instant regret, but I was lucky enough to find someone who would take it off my hands.
