The Royal Treatment

So over the past summer, the latest Dragonball Super move, titled Super Hero, was released and along with it was, of course, some Figuarts. Well, I've been keeping up with the preorders.. I just haven't actually been opening anything. Well I've finally reached that point when I'm getting around to opening them, starting with my favourite, Vegeta.

Going to keep this one pretty short and sweet. If you're still with me, chances are that you've probably collected one or two of these figures... possibly one or two of the same character, even. This Vegeta is effectively the same as all the other modern releases, with the closest living relative, as it were, being the Majin Vegeta release. in that he's basically got the same outfit, but a different shirt. Shoulder muscle is different on this figure as compared to Majin, and there's no crossed arm piece, just a thumbs out right hand.

While the body s pretty much a known entity, it is the face plates that make this figure stand out. The expressions aren't exactly new. In fact, if I wasn't so lazy I'm almost confident that I would find them all being reused. But what IS different is the detailing. There's more black lines for the purposes of providing additional detailing, and this simple addition really helps to make the faces pop. I suspect that this takes visual cues from the on screen appearances of the characters. Whatever the case, the faces alone I'd say would warrant adding this Vegeta to your collection.

Articulation doesn't change much between the iterations of the character. However, it should be noted that unlike the various versions of Goku, Vegeta actually changes clothing. In additional to actually being stylish, the slightly different clothing results in different range of motion levels, so basically not all Vegeta will pose the same. If you're not familiar, then it's suffice to say that you'll get all but the most extreme poses out of the body, though some will look weird due to the design of the joints.

Unsurprisingly, the Paint and Build Quality are non issues. It's clean, though as always most of the work is done by the plastic itself. Flesh tones painted on the forearms are very obvious, but again that's not limited to this figure, though the actual paint itself isn't present on the Majin version. I'm just glad that "generic quality" over in Japan is better than that of your typical Walmart purchase.

An interesting Vegeta figure. It has the characteristics of a Vegeta Figuart, but the bonus of having some really nice face plates. It's not a horribly expensive figure, and it's a main character, so I say if you're into the line at all, it's a good addition to your stash.
