So, the Summer 2022 Dragonball Event Exclusive figures have finally started to ship. I got a few, as a typically do, this time around being the new SSJ2 Goku and Android 16. Opened them up, starting with Goku.
You may recall that relatively recently, Bandai released a SSJ2 Goku in their mainline under the name Full Powered Goku. It was a nice set, entry price point, a good alternative to those of use who didn't want to pay aftermarket prices for the first 2.0 SSJ2 Goku entry. Well, as you can imagine, Bandai went ahead and decided to do an Exclusive Edition version of the that figure.
Unsurprisingly, the contents of the set are pretty much recycled, though there are some new twists that I've not personally seen before:
- 1 x Main Figure
- 4 x Faceplates
- 10 x Posing Hands
- 4 x Energy Tendrils
- 1 x Aura Effect
So the hands are recycled, which is not surprising, and I think they're the actual hands the Full Powered set came with. The faces are effectively the same expression as the Full Powered set, but like with Super Hero Goku, they've been reworked to feature more expressive eyes and more detailing, resulting in much more accurate looking faces.
I've also seen the Energy Aura before, most recently with my Kaioken Goku, but I think that this is the first I've seen something being attached to it. Of course, its probably more likely that this was with some other set in the past, one that I'm not familiar with.
As far as I can tell, the body features the same orange and blues as seen on the other Dragonball Z Goku figures. The biggest visual change, aside from the faces, would be the hair. Same sculpting, but this time the hair has a pearl gold finish like the SSJ3 Goku does, as opposed to the flat yellow of the Full Powered set.
The Eagle eyed will also notice that this Goku is sporting a removable halo, which I believe chronologically puts him at that time period before the Buu Saga. Regardless, this hair combined with the new faces really help to make this figure stand out.
The rest of the review is pretty much a repeat, so I'm not going to go into detail. The articulation remains the same as every other Goku they've made, so you're going to be able to pull off a wide variety of poses, with wonky looking shoulders. Paint Application wise, well it's paint and there's not a whole lot on these figures, so its safe to say they didn't screw that up. Same goes with Build Quality - I've lost count how many Goku figures (and Dragonball Figuarts in general) they've made, and its only very rarely do they get it so wrong that the parts don't fit or limbs fall off.
That pretty much sums it up. Another solid entry into the line, and being an Exclusive Edition means that you're not likely to see anything that is completely new. Having said that, the overall spit polish on an already solid figure greatly improves it's shelf appeal.
Let's face it - you're not buying one Goku... you're likely trying to get as many of him as you can on your shelf without being overly repetitive.
